Terpenes are organic compounds produced by plants that play an essential role in the defense, flavors and aromas of many different plants. Cannabis is known to have at least 100 different terpenes out of the over 20,000 that are known to exist. Terpenes provide flowers and fruit with their own unique smells and tastes. Particular to cannabis, terpenes affect the duration and intensity of cannabinoids.

Depending on which terpenes are present in particular strains their effects on mood, symptoms and your type and level of relaxation will be different. Strains can also be tweaked during cultivation to present certain terpenes depending on the humidity, light and processing of the grow.
